----------------------
The plot chosen by Florian Zeller around which the tension in "The Son" unfolds could be "borrowed" from the drama of any contemporary family: divorced parents who have seriously lost trust and communication with their teenage son, and his attempt to "silently scream out" his pain and yearning for family and understanding.
The boy is left in the care of his mother, living with her in the oppressive and cold atmosphere of solitude. He doesn't feel her love and support, and is wounded by the absence of his father, who now has another family and child. What does the boy do? He stops attending school for months, withdraws into himself, surrounds himself with imaginary protective walls, and rebels in his own way.
What will his behavior trigger? Tremors in the relationship of the two ex-spouses and his parents? Mutual accusations? A cataclysm in the father's new family? Reconciliation?
"The Son" by Florian Zeller is a massive, painful question posed from the stage to all of us, about the cost and pricelessness of love.
